Music is an aspect of almost every part of life. It can be found in many different areas and can have a lasting impact on life. Not many people know that music can play a role in people with special needs or emotional difficulties. Just like physical therapy or occupational therapy, music therapy is a known form of therapy that can help many people through many different illnesses, mental or emotional problems. Music therapy involves the use of musical instruments, played music and other areas of music to bring out a response in a patient. The response can come in many different forms from emotional breakthroughs such as crying, screaming, or feelings of happiness to physical aspects such as using hands and fingers to play instruments. Music therapy is also known as a way to allow patients an outlet for emotions such as anger, feelings of fright, and frustration. Each individual response will vary depending upon the issues that need to be addressed by the patient. Music therapy can also be used as a form of relaxation for those that have been through very stressful situations or emotional situations or as a form of physical workout for those that have experienced strokes. The counting of the music and the therapeutic aspect has very healing aspects that can allow music therapy to be incorporated into any aspect of the medical or mental area of health. Although music appears in every day life, in order for music therapy to be successful one must make sure that they are going to a trained professional that is known how to incorporate both the musical and emotional or physical aspects together. Music therapists are usually trained with a degree of masters music therapy from an accredited college where they have taken many classes and learned how to incorporate both aspects into therapy.
With the right therapy many patients have had a lot of breakthroughs using music therapy in both the emotional and physical aspects of life. Along with physical, mental, and occupational therapy many patients can come back from illness or emotional difficulties to lead very productive lives. |
